Phoolan Devi was an Indian Dacoit ( member of a gang ) armed robber who had a brief career as a politician later in her life. In the 1970s she was kidnapped by a gang of Dacoits. She escaped,  but then eventually joined them in their crimes, stealing from the wealthy. At one point she was raped by a group of men in Behmai. Phoolan Devi returned to Behmai many years later this time with great hatred of what had happened to her in previous years. She then ordered all of the men in the village to be lined up and shot. This was then named the “The St Valentines Massacre”. In the early eighties at least 22 men were murdered at her command. Honed down by private investigators of the government she was finally arrested and imprisoned in 1983 where she spent 11 years in jail. In 1994 she was released from prison still regarded as a popular hero she was then re elected to Parliament as a member of the Samajwadi Party. Her career was short lived due to abuse of her power then on July 2001 she was gunned down by four men in front of her house in New Delhi in revenge of the horrific murders that took place in Behmai.
