Brigitte Mohnhaupt was once called the most , evil woman terrorist in Germany. She was a former member of the BaaderMeinhof Gang, Germany’s most notorious urban guerrilla group. This group was also known as the Red Army Faction in the years of the 1970s and 1980s, which targeted the Western German part of the capital. The terrorists bombed department stores, robbed banks and coldly kidnapped and murdered, bank chiefs, chief prosecutors, union officials and American GIs. Mohnhaupt herself, was convicted of involvement in nine murders. Victims included a judge, a banker and the employers’ federation president.
One of the group’s most prominent targets was Germany’s most powerful industrialist, the President of the West German Employers’ federation, Hans Martin Schleyer. On the 5th September 1977, a woman pushed a pram in front of a car on a quiet Cologne Street. Inside the car was an RAF target former Waffen SS man, Schleyer. Mohnhaupt and four other terrorists ran over to the car, pulled out machine guns and started shooting. His bodyguards and driver were killed instantly.
A month later Schleyer’s body, with gunshot wounds to the head, was found dumped in the boot of a green Audi 100 over the border in France. Brigitte Mohnhaupt was jailed for this and other killings.
According to the court hearing, Brigitte Mohnhaupt had expressed no remorse for any of her evil killings. This was one of the bloodiest episodes in the country’s post war history. A German court in Stuttgart ruled that Brigitte Mohnhaupt, 57, qualified for early release on the 27th of March 2007 after serving a minimum of her five life sentences. She was freed only on the condition that no security risk existed.
